Rod Planck’s interest in nature photography and love for the natural world began at an early age. Years of experience as a naturalist have established a broad understanding and respect for the natural world—forming the basis of his interest in nature photography.
Rod images have appeared in many publications. Nikon USA designated Rod as a “Legend Behind the Lens” and in 2002, was heralded by Outdoor Photographer as one of the top five “Masters of the Landscape.” Rod’s instructional articles on photography have appeared in numerous magazines including Birder’s World, Nature’s Best, Outdoor Photographer and on Nikon’s Learn and Explore Website. He has been published in several major photography books, including Nature’s Places, The Spirit of the North, Wild Michigan, Birds of North America, The Nature of America, Daybreak 2000 and The North Woods.
Rod is passionate about teaching others about nature photography. He has conducted hundreds of nature photography tours, workshops and one-day seminars throughout North America, Iceland and Antarctica. He runs his photography workshop and tour business with his wife, Marlene from their log home on 200 acres in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
Get more information on Rod at his website.

We'll cover a lot of ground in this full-day seminar, but we'll pay particular attention to these topics that can benefit you in the field:
- Thinking Digitally: How to set your camera quickly for consistent results outdoors.
- Photographing small creatures in the wild: The art of capturing images of insects, spiders and other small creatures using natural light and flash methods.
- Composing World-Class Images: Refining your creative vision to compose strong images in the camera.
- Field techniques: Learn to use the technical features in today’s photo equipment to obtain the best results.
